Tired out by God Emperor of Dune
I've re-read *Dune *after Denis Villeneuve’s movie was announced and after some time I decided to revisit the next parts of the story. I had read them as a teenager, but never finished the series. So I thought of reading all of the books written by Frank Herbert (I've heard that books by his son are not that good).
It was going well, until I've come to God Emperor of Dune. At some point I was thinking about not finishing this book.
It starts 3500 years after Children of Dune and is very disconnected from the things that we knew. Arrakis is no longer desert planet and the world is ruled by Leto II, who is now almost fully transformed into the sandworm. First chapter promises some action with rebels stealing journals from the palace (reminding me a bit of Star Wars), but it quickly changes into long and boring conversations between Leto and his subordinates. Maybe they will lead somewhere later on, but half of them are too mysterious to make any sense.
By the time something finally happening, it's difficult to follow it after so long in philosophical stillness. The actions are also a bit disconnected from the narrative and came out of nowhere.
It's a strange book. I've read that it suppose to be like that and mirror a bit style of the Leto's rule. However, it isn't fun to read. I hope next part would be slightly lighter and with more action.
This short review is part of my effort to document my life a bit more. I might try doing the same with other books I read.
