Keyboard customisation on macOS

Not that long ago, battery in my keyboard decided to swell up. To keep it from getting it worse, I disconnected the battery, but that left me with the option to use the keyboard in wired mode only. It wasn't a big deal, but it did make me think of getting a new keyboard.

I was using some cheap Blitzwolf which was a clone of Nuphy Air. I liked it and was looking for something similar, but a bit more premium. It turned out there was a Christmas sale so I decided to get real Nuphy Air V3. I chose the silent Blush switches, and it sounds and feel lovely. If you have the budget for it, I highly recommend it.

While setting everything up, I had to decide what to do with Command/CTRL keys. I'm using both - Mac for work and Windows as my personal computer. My muscle memory wants to use my pinky finger for shortcuts like Copy-Paste. The first idea was to use web interface to remap Command into the proper place, but then I remembered how I fixed this for my previous keyboard.

Mac has a handy feature that lets you remap modifier keys from settings. You just need to search for "Customize modifier keys" in System Settings.

There you can select keyboard you are using at the moment and change:

Control (^) -> Command (⌘)
Command (⌘) -> Control (^)

Now the shortcuts work the way I'm used to.

Why not remap the keys from the web interface? Because then I'd need to switch Mac/Windows toggle switch every time I change the computer. Now it only switches Function keys, acting more like Function Lock. Maybe I'll play a bit more with remapping in the future, but so far I'm happy. I couldn't quite remember what I changed last time, so now I have a little reminder for the future.

While I was checking those settings I noticed that there is one more key that I'm not really using that maybe could have a better function. I haven’t come up with an idea yet, but I’m still wondering… what should I remap CAPS LOCK to?
